Looking for things to do this Summer in Watertown? The NYS Zoo at Thompson Park is excited to offer our Zoofari Summer Camp for kids ages 6-12. Each day, we'll explore the zoo and get to know more about Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.
Animal Professionals - July 9 to July 13
Do you have a passion for animals? Are you wondering how you can channel that passion into a career? We will be spending this week exploring different professions that have animals as a highlight.
Junior Biologist - July 16 to July 20
The world is full of exciting wonders. This week we will explore biological responses, chemistry, physics and more. There is sure to be an explosion or two with lots of ooohs and awwwws and lots of laughs.
Planet Earth - July 23 to July 27
Earth rotates at a steady beat with the sun rising at predictable times every day. We will explore what makes our planet so unique including weather systems, ecosystems, and animal diversity. We will also be learning about how each animal fits into their ecosystem and how they all play important roles in maintaining the balance in the Web of Life.
Pollinator Heroes -July 30 to August 3
The focus for this week is about how all living things play an equally important part in the overall ecosystem of habitats. Whether it’s a mushroom, a mosquito, a rabbit, or a fox each has an important role in maintaining the balance in the Web of Life.
What’s in the Water? - Aug 6 to Aug 10
If you put your goggles on and dive under the surface, you will quickly learn that there is a whole unique world in the water. We will be learning about what animals live in these watery ecosystems and the adaptations they possess to be successful.
Claws or Paws - Aug 13 to Aug 17
In the wild, animals have challenges they have to overcome every day. We will learn about these challenges and the adaptations that have evolved to ensure survival. Campers will also have to figure out how to overcome some challenges of their own.
Slimy yet Satisfying - Aug 20 to Aug 24
Animals get their nutritional requirements from a vast range of foods such as plants, insects, or by preying on other animals. We will explore how each animal gets exactly what they need from their strange diets and what adaptations they may have developed to make up for what they can’t get.
Registration for the Summer 2018 Day Camp Sessions is now available. Please see documents below descriptions. Online payment options will be available late April, payments and registration can be sent in the mail or turned in at the front desk of the Zoo during business hours.
Zoofari will encompass learning about many aspects of science and the natural world including experiments, nature treks, and games. We will explore the Zoo, some of our more natural ecosystems and our education animal collection! This is sure to be an action packed learning experience for all.
Each week will be available as full or half day programs. Children entering 1st grade through 6th grade for the 2018-2019 school year are the target audience for these programs. Age restrictions are necessary for the students to be able to understand and participate in all programming.
Full Day Camp runs from 9am-4pm Monday through Friday.
Full Day Camp is $120/member child, $150/non member child.
After Camp Care (4pm-5pm) is $7.50/day per child.
Before Camp Care (7:45am-9:00am) is $7.50/day per child.
Optional Lunch (snacks are included in camp cost) $4/day, $20/week
Habitiual late pick ups will result in a $1/minute charge.
