Butterfly House 

The Butterfly House at Watertown’s Zoo is home to over 20 species of native to New York butterflies.  At any one time, you can witness more than 100 butterflies in the house.

The best time to observe the butterflies activities is on warm, sunny days.

  • Tiger Swallowtail
  • Black Swallowtail
  • Pipevine Swallowtail
  • Giant Swallowtail
  • Spicebush Swallowtail
  • Painted Lady
  • Gulf Fritillary
  • Red Admiral
  • Cabbage Butterfly
  • Hackberry & Tawny Emperor
  • Variegated Fritillary
  • Common Buckeye

And Many More…

Given many factors, we can not guarantee the species in the house each day.

The Butterfly House opens on Memorial Day each year and adopts modified hours after Labor Day.
